Attached are a couple of pictures of Chilly and my two
other buddies.
Chilly( 8 weeks) has done very well getting used to his new home and
playing
with 8 year old Jake (sitting) and 11 year old Granite (lying). He slept
the
entire night in his crate last nite without incident and is doing very
well
with house training. I started training him with the "sit" and "come"
commands. We are very pleased with his temperment and I believe he is
going
to be a fine hunting dog. He is a hit with all the neighbors and their
kids.
My vet checked him over and was very impressed. I'll keep you informed as
to
our progress.

Received 9-7-04
Grouse season opened in Montana on Sept. 1 and I've had
the dogs out for 3
days of hunting. Chilly's first real hunt on Sept.1st was a mixed bag with
alot of exposure to new scents and noises. We hunted sharp tails and
Chilly
was getting the "hang" of things by mid-day. He quartered pretty well and
had his nose to the ground. Overall, I was pleased with his performance.
On
Sept 5th & 6th we went after sage grouse. After driving several hours to
get
to our hunting spot, I stopped at a creek to water the dogs. As my two
veterans, Granite and Jake, were lapping water - I noticed Chilly "locked
up
hard" on some brush. As I approached Chilly to investigate, a rooster
pheasant bust out of the brush. Oh, the magic of a dog on point! We
hunted
sage grouse for two days and Chilly did great. He obeys commands nicely
and
is working well with the other dogs. Although pheasant season is not open
in
Montana yet, I deliberately put Chilly on pheasants for experience. He has
alot of energy and enthusiasm and for only being seven months old is
coming
along just great. We took him to one of Adams football games and the crowd
fell in love with him. I'll touch base with you later in the season and
provide an update.
